Who can you partner with to help beat the “summer slide?” In Chicago, the Mayor’s office is challenging kids to read 2.4 million books over the summer to bring “The Tonight Show” back to Chicago. The Lincoln Park Zoo, Brookfield Zoo, the Museum of Science and Industry and The Anti-Cruelty Society are also helping to keep kids reading and tracking their reading totals over the summer.
You can also make a challenge of your own… “‘Librarians in individual branches place their own bets with the children to keep them reading, too,’ Lednicer said. ‘Last year, one librarian placed a wager with her students that if they reached their reading goals, she’d dye her hair the color of their choice. She ended the summer with a bright yellow coiffure.'” http://trib.in/TA1su6
